BACKGROUND INFORMATION ...WITH A SCOOP ON QUADRO BET PLAYS

You can call me an enigma of a pundit as I am in an intriguing position of being 1st and last in the internet/print media challenge based on my terms of comparing strike rates. First the bad news ...I have yet to break my duck on Singapore Nap with zero wins, 2 placings from 5 selections with only one win on side selection from 7 picks my strike rate is 0.08% (1 win from 5 plus 7 selections for a grand total of 12 picks). Compared to the 3 Winner21 tipsters on 9 wins from 56 races with a strike rate of 16.07% I look like a horse who was stuck in the stalls. On the bright side Starstatz Racing had a good jump with 6 wins on opening day followed by a disappointing 1 win on 16 January for a total of 7 wins from 24 races for a strike rate of 29.17%. This compares favourably with current Winner21 leader Hui Liang who is at 26.79% with 15 wins from 56 races. Racing Guide have been slow off the blocks in January with 13 wins for a strike rate of 23.21%. Like Manchester United they have had a slow start with only one top performance of the day with 5 wins but I will bet my last dollar on them reeling in the current leaders. My current score is consistent with my record breaking strike rate in season 2009 of 29.74% with 240 wins from 810 races.

I have a bonus for Singapore Nap readers by being the 1st publication from any media including STC to analyse Quadro bet plays. I hope the STC put their Straits Times to good use by advertising how to calculate the various Quadro bet plays in the manner that I have done. It is very boring just to focus on a bet is $2 and the minimum return is $3 and how to scratch your coupons . I fear for racing in general and the Quadro may go the way of Triple Trio if we do not advertise information on this new bet type which I will term “The poor Man's Quartet and readers of Singapore Nap should do well with this new bet type. Are our various publications so overwhelmed with going to the presses on time that we do not take the initiative to write about Quadro Bets if STC does not do an official Press Release. Are our journalists so hamstrung that they cannot write an interesting new article because no senior staff has given the direction or permission to write this article and promote racing as a consequence? I feel mainstream publications could do more to promote racing by writing articles from new perspectives eg have a feature on the trainers who are able to train a horse to win 1st up either in his 1st run or 1st run after a break like Stairway To Heaven trained by Monsieur Stephen Gray who won after a 6 month break. I was unlucky and less courageous with 3 2nd choice selections winning at longshot prices with Golden Lido, Lady Luck and Stairway To Heaven paying juicy dividends. I can recall without doing any research that Basil Marcus is coy about his horses winning 1st up and I have done well with Trainers like Laxon. Meagher , Walker, Burridge,Shaw, Freedman. Without doing any research I can boldly say that local trainers have a poor strike rate in this area Our race publications could do with promotion of stud farms, horse racing websites, instructional videos, educational books on horse handicapping. Our Pretty IR Lady has to be restrained regarding publicity on casino goers winning big jackpots and cars. Where is the equivalent of promotions in racing. Racing publications are going about their routine barely able to meet Print deadlines and they going through the weekly grind with scant attention to articles to stir up interest and renewed excitement in horse racing. I hope they do games and coupons with the Quadro with a rolling jackpot for quadro game winners at St James Power Station.

Singapore Nap will do its part to promote the Quadro by betting every week on the 5 horse box, 6 horse box and 7 horse box at least for the early weeks and maybe reduce it to 5 and 6 selections only. These are the recommended play although I highly recommend to leave out the 8 horse selections and only use the 7 horse selection sparingly. In the main it is recommended to use 5 or 6 selections on a regular basis. Listed below are the various plays. I would also recommend not to use the box too often and narrow down your key horse or horses as bankers.....

4 box is obviously $2 , 5 box is $10, 6 box is $30 ,7 box is $70(i think this should be the maximum bet even if one has the budget as i think 8 box is extravagant) , 8 box is $140

The formulae is N x (N-1) x (N-2) x (N-3) divided by 24 = answer

One banker + 4 = $8.... + 5 = $20....+6 =$40 ...+7= $70( plus 6 shud be maximum bet even if one has the budget)

The formulae is (N-1) x (N-2) x (N-3) divided by 6 = answer

2 bankers + 3 = $6....+4 = $12....+5 = $20 ....+6 = $30

The formulae is (N-2) x (N-3) divided by 2 = answer

3 bankers + 2 = $4...+3 = $6...+ 4 =$8 .... +5 = $10

(number of extra horses other than the 3 bankers ) x 2 = answer

Do check out my blog at www.starstatzracing.blogspot.com for the full race card selections .at least for 21 January as I expect to be away on assignment again over the weekend.
Should be there any query on the scores tabulated for other publications or my scores do drop me an email at insiders111@yahoo.com

OVERVIEW

I have used the X 2 special very sparingly so far this season but I am coming out of my fox hole for this one and hope to live to tell the tale of my victory in my next post.

Singapore racegoers have a big fear of playing horse with top imposts especially today with 59 kg but I say do not be afraid as there is a big gulf in class of the horses running today. If this was a normal handicap race only Goldschatz(currently off the boil in dismal form) will be made to carry 59.5kg and the rest will run underscaled ranging from My Drumbeat at 49.5kg to Clint at 45.5kg a range difference of 27 points or 13.5 kg differential . Instead Tell A Tale is giving away a maximum of 7kg .....a paltry penalty by comparison

The pace will slow with 2 noted front running types in 3 and 4. On pace runners 2-7-5-8 will jump next with the 2 main chances at the rear and I am counting on Tell A Tale to have a more devastating turn of foot in the home straight but they have to keep a watchful eye on My Drumbeat and keep within striking distance. They may have to make their move before the home turn if the pace turns out to be slow as expected. Tell A tale is easily the Class Act in this race with his winning experiences in New Zealand. He does not have the best handicap ratings(HR) but he is easily the best rated in form horse. Only Goldschatz and Ravages and Pina Colarda have a superior HR than number 1

Their ratings are 1 at 89.87, 2 at 100.8, 3 at 89.5, 4 at 91.5, 5 at 88, 6 at 87.5, 7 at 95.1 and 8 at 85.4. Tell A Tale should signs of doing well unsighted at the rear at the home turn but flashed home well to be with 1.55 lengths from the winner. I did my 1st round handicap before the race card was out . With Duric on board merely serve to reinforce my analysis as apprentices don't seem in general to do well in distance races(perhaps the publications should take a cue and research this data on well junior jockeys perform in distance races from 1600M onwards. The standing joke in racing circles is that they are likely to be winded a long way out before the home straight and will tire before the horses actually do so and likely to get a flat punctured tyre as the saying goes in Singlish. In order my selections are 1-5-3( 1 would suggest using these 3 as key horses allowing room for one to fail to make the Quadro.)-6-7-2-4. I shall officially bet using 2 bankers and the top 6 horses for the tierce and quartet. I shall drop the trio bets and replace them with 3 Quadro bets with 5 horse box, 6 horse box and 7 horse box at least for this week. My exotic bet lost a further $180 last week to make it an official loss of $838 plus $180 for a total deficit of $1018. Put a big bet on win /place as I expect a double digit return even if he remains a firm 1st favourite because of local mindset bias which will be a bonus for Singapore Nap readers!
