REVIEW OF NEW PUBLICATION- VICTORY TRAIL
The comment I quoted from reader Dan Chan on Singapore Nap on the 7naps website was incomplete. He said ..."after VT 2nd issue I conclude that it is essentially a Chinese Guide. Plenty of info in Chinese whereas briefly translated a little bit to English to make up the pages.
As I mentioned in my last posting that they badly need English Language proof-reader . Theese are a sample of their 20 odd mistakes from the 1st issue....
"deligence" in the introduction by Senior Executive VP Robin Hu should be ....diligence
"have strong finishing power " should be.... has (note ... should be singular)strong finishing burst
"both starts were narrowly beaten" should be....was narrowly beaten in both starts
"one of the top chance" should be ....one of the top chances
"need to improve: should be ...needs to improve
"top 3 chances" should be .... top 3 chance or one of top 3 chances
"strong supports at last start" should be... strong support in last start
"might need a break after many tough fights" should be...might need a break after many competitive races
"has the best chance to first cross the post" should be...has the best chance to make it 1st past the post
"can amend in this field" should be ...can make amends in this field
"neaver a win in this class" should be ....has slim winning chances in this class
'back finishers" should be closers or back markers
"R . Steward" should be R. Stewart (careless typographical error)
"VT Best Bet" shouldn't best bet be only one choice and only one race should be designated best bet?...How can best bet be in every race of the day.
"would need to perform on longer distance" should be ...would prefer a longer distance or would be better over a longer distance
"wait for him on poly" shpould be.... prefers the polytrack

"Alederbaran" name of sire is mentioned with no indication whether he is likely to be a sprinter, miler or stayer? What is the point? Is this sire so famous that it is too obvious to elaborate on brief sire details?

"No show on debut" should be.... no show in debut
"all his 4 wins were on this distance" should be...all his 4 wins aere at this distance
"last 2 starts shown improvement " should be ...has shown improvement in last 2 starts
"capable in long distance should be ....capable at this distance
"is sure aiming for his 3 in a row Gold Cup win "should be ....aiming for his treble in Gold Cup
"he is just making the number in this company" should be ...he is just making the numbers in this company
"see more to judge" should be "....needs to show more for consideration

Victory Trail may be a good product in Mandarin but still needs to offer more information in English and all Mandarin information and tips should be given parity coverage or the English reader will feel he is short-changed and neglected. With all these feedback I hope to see some improvement in the forthcoming issues. I would expect these errors(typo or otherwise in a blog like Starstatz Racing"(being a one man operation is understandable) but a prestigious public listed company like SPH having a flagship publication with these glaring errors certainly raises some eyebrows ! I hope they will implement measures to rectify these teething problems to ensure mistakes do not come to the fore but are kept to a minimum!
Due to time constraints in doing the Victory Trail I have deferred my posting of a sample of handicap data to another day. Please look at my abridged comments on the new publication Victory Trail on www.7naps.com.The likely winners are placed on the left of my stroke. My selections for today are:-

As far as readers are concerned, what is important is that the publication helps them MAKE MONEY and VT is doing just that. You can keep your "Good English" and continue writing rubbish here.
In the 1st place I never said my English was damn good but If you can spot mistakes other than typos do scrutinize and hightlight these mistakes and I will accept them or reply accordingly .I is not worth considering or worrying about. If you consider 30 plus mistakes(or you can put up a case for them that those were not errors)negligible that you must using an CHINESE/ENGLISH DICTIONARY ( i suggest you use the Oxford dictionary instead) translation. It is only a minor mistake on your part and perhaps a better choice than negligible. However if you consider their mistakes minor you must be a truly forgiving person. This column has not shied away from controversy and giving critical and frank feedback/assessments/comments for the greater good of racing. I have also given out plaudits to the very same people I have been crtitical of in the past...this goes to show it is not personal eg STC officials and journalist, Marc Tan of the Newpaper(I have recently complimented him for his improvement this year and even on 26 November he deserves a compliment and encouragement for his value bet tip on Steven.Who knows my agenda may be to let them know that they can at least employ me as a proof reader if my handicapping skills are too complex for the ordinary layman like you to understand for them to employ me as a resident pundit. Maybe if you work in Wan Bao you might be privvy to inside knowledge but from my last communication with my recruitment manager that I might be on the shortlist for an opening to revamp and strenghten their English offerings before the end of the year. I will mention in this column as soon as it is finalised one way or another. If they take my feedback in the right spirit of self-improvemt I might get the job. If the bosses take offence than a veto might be cast and I am out. I will keep readers posted on developments in this column. In their 6th issue some of the their tipsters had the same score as me for races on 26 Novemberbut I believe one of them beat me and scored 3 wins...a strong improvement from their dismal outing(overall) on 19November. If you had read my column you will note I praised the performance of Mr Lau who had 3 wins from 3 selections. I even highlighted their tipping of Corsage as a value bet and two of their tipsters did tip He;s Great on 26 November at value odds. You are the other hand appear to be biased with only critical comments on one side or aspect of my work but never mentioned that I praised them as well. Every tipster (including Racing Guide, Punters Way , VT and myself have had bad days with zero scores). You and your feathered ally Mr Desmond Tang the Polytechnic lecturer(the one who spouts 4 letter words in my column...I will deal with his obscenities in my column by ostracizing him when it is convenient for me to do so) seem to make guest appearances only when my score is bad and when it suits your agenda...whatever it may be. You appear to be blind or suffering from amnesia or perhaps suffer from arthritis of the fingers and have no comments when I score 4 wins or 6 wins recently and was top media tipster for the day recently. My rubbish as you put it had 2 wins that paid $14 and $12 from 5 invest bets.
ReplyDeleteOn top of the that I provided a short list for the tierces in Race 2 and Race 8 and the respective Quartets of $345 and $1932. I am particularly proud of my work in Race 8 when I named 9 and 6 (OK I am not perfect as I got the order wrong) as key or main threats to my confident (X2 special on 7naps.com). If you had used 6 and 9 on the 2nd line only or 2nd and 3rd lines if you had a tight budget you would have scored on the $1932 quartet for as low(if you are lucky) as $16 with the combination 8/9-6/9-6/7-1-2-5. A moderate amount of $80 for the combination of the 2 key horses on the 2nd line only would have bagged the quartet ie 8/9-6/9-6-7-1-2-5).Now both of you understand why I use 7 selections from which to choose from. Even if you had a tight budget you could have spend $4 and get the tierce of $58 with combination 8# 9-6. If you were lucky you might have played multiple tickets. If you think That I recommend 7 horses for you to box all(at a price of $2100) of them that you must be more naive in this game that what I give you credit for. If you think this column is full of rubbish than I suggest you should't torture yourself any further and prolong your agony. I suggest you move on to greener pastures especially if you find my English overwhelming. For the record this author holds the current record jointly with Sky Racing's Michael Maxworthy(during his tenure with STC) of 9 winners in a day(same day when Saimee scored a 7 bagger) from 12 races. Before I close this debate let me ask you a question " do you agree with my point that Victory Trail should publish similar offerings in their English section compared to their Mandarin section ie articles written in Mandarin must be translated into English for the benefit of English speaking readers who do not understand. Please do not evade the issue and respond accordingly. Your reply (back it up with logical statements why you agree or disagree) will reflect on your credibility as an impartial( i have not given up on you yet) reader. I was Unofficial Champion Internet Print Media Champion for last season with 18 value winners at $30 and above and this season I have cemented my top 2 ranking( despite having suffered days with zero scores) among 20 (even when Michael Maxworthy was around) Internet Print Media Tipsters so if you think my work is rubbish I dread to think what names you will spew for those ranked below my scores.If you think my scores are false or misleading please point it out and back your statements with proof or sound logical arguments). Please refrain from using 4 letter words as per standard proper behaviour in blogs or public forums. By the way I believe even if you dont appreciate my 7 selections(if you have a limited budget I don't see why it is so difficult to restrict yourself to the top 4. I happen to hold the best direct quartet score for this year with the quartet of $411 when Always Certain beat Ten Ten Lai. In addition I have scored on at least 3 or 4 other direct quartets for this season alone inclding others ranging from $19 to slightly below $400. With all this evidence and you still think my column is full of rubbish than I find your views totally out of sync with a mature, reasonable and cultured reader and I don't deserve your continued patronage.

Do you think anybody will believe that SEVEN horses can possibly finish in the order you prescribed ? Even getting the first 2 correct is tough enough. Only a lunatic will give 7 horses in order and expect people to believe him.
ReplyDeleteAnother reason I write is to tell you your blog is nowhere compare to ANY of the guides out there. My opinion is, it is like reading a primary school composition and a thesis for a Bachelor Degree program, respectively.

By what yardstick do you say my blog is nowhere compared to the 3 existing publications: namely Racing Guide , Punters Way or Victory Trail? By sales? I will lose hands down as my blog is free at the moment. If your yardstick is by number of 1st picks winning than you are sadly mistaken unless you dispute my score which is on display in my blog . For last season I was top of the heap and if you are from one of these 3 race publications you would have been able to track my scores and realised I was 5 wins ahead of Racing Guide last season with a record breaking 240 wins ...5 ahead of Racing Guide and possibly 20-25 ahead of Punters Way. For this season I am behind Racing Guide by 15 wins and 28 wins ahead of Punters Way and at last count total of 6 wins for the 2 days and 8 wins for 3 days that Victory Trail started publishing Victory Trail's best score from 4 tipsters was 3 wins from 2 days ie I beat all the tipsters in VT's stables. I am 2nd best this year bar all official media/internet tipsters. Perhaps I have overlooked your publication. Would you care to identify where you are from to vindicate your claims? Would you care to give examples of ludicrous,lamentable and laughable to justify your opinions or are you plucking words from thin air because of a personal agenda. Instead of broad generalizations which sentence do you consider as "nonsense"...justify your vile and vehement expostulations as they seem so full of rancid, rancourous bile so please give me examples. I have never claimed to be perfect but I believe my standard of English is comparable to the big boys but I do admit to making careless typos as I sometimes do not
ReplyDeleteproof read my work in order to meet posting datelines.As far as 7 horses are concerned I did mention Mr Profumo as my 7th pick to include for value as he was a good mudlark with seemingly poor recent form. For my selections for the Gingerbread Man you could have hit the quartet of $1932 while spending anything from $240 using 8 as the banker and box the remaining 6 horses on the remaining lines or $80 if you use the 2 key contenders on the 2nd line only or $16 if you use the 2 key horses on the 2nd and 3rd lines for a token budget of $16. Be mindful that Mr Profumo was the 8th priced favourite showing $212 among 10 runners. Did any of the publications have Mr Profumo in their top 4. Of course this is an unfair comparison of 7 selections versus 4 selections but this is precisely the point! Only a tyro in racing would not understand in order of merit. If you had no budget to play all the 7 selections you may have struck the tierce of $58 with a budget as low as $4 or slighlty more depending on how many horses were within your budget.
One positive result has emerged from your feedback I shall now track tierce/quartet bets through a standard pattern of play at least for the 6 remaining race days I see if I can show readers a profit! Only a novice or an experienced incompetent will suggest that I am
suggesting that they finish in the correct order all the time although I have hit direct quartets(ie top 4 finish in the correct order at values ranging from $19 to $411) at least 4 to 5 times this season. Are you foolhardy enough to suggest that I am asking readers to box all 7 horse for the quartet for $1680 ? Surely not! It is easy to shoot hiding in your pillbox of anonymity so please back up your statements with examples!

Hello Mr Zhong introduced by Desmond Tang the poly lecturer. Could you be one and the same person as one got chopped off and like Hydra the new one reincarnated. Why can't you address my number of winners and ranking of 2nd and reconcile it against your statement that my blog is nowhere compared to the others and I did not use 7 selections to be number 2 as only my 1st pick counted in the tally. You make sweeping statements and evade issues when challenged and then say you don't want to comment anymore. I already addressed the advantage that I have with 7 to get the quartet which I admitted was an advantage and I made the point that you need more than 4 selections to strike the quartet which I pro\ved with my 7 selections. Since you say you don't want to comment anymore would you volunteer to take yourself of my followers list or do you still want to receive alerts and emails on my posting. Unlike Desmond who used 4 letter words I will not want to chop you off the list unless you volunteer to do so please clarify whether you want to stay on my follower's list. I rather play a quartet with one banker and 4 ,5 or 6 other horses according to my budget for the day If the ordinary race goer played one banker with 6 other horses and selected based on leaving out the highest 3 dividends then Mr Profumo would be out at $212 for a win and Another Sunday at $188 would be in instead! i urge you not to leave yet and clear the fire you had ignited. As long as you don't use 4 letter and you are logical in your arguments or back down if you have no valid points or examples. Who knows you might inspire something new and positive in this column which will benefit my readers. AFTER reading the first sentence, I found

and of course, the entire sentence structure is wrong. I stopped there. I can imagine what the rest of the rubbish is. Why don't you stuff all these junk up your ah soh and comfort yourself?
Just look at your first sentence -
